We are hoping that you each were able to spend some precious time this weekend with your family and friends, attend your favorite event, and/or just find time for the rest you so deserve. I really can't think of to many things that wears a JCPS classified employee out quite as much as the first week of school.
I am very thankful to announce that we have appointed two very important vacancies within JCAESP/AFSCME Local 4011. We welcome Jeannie Linker, Secretary at Johnsontown Elementary to the Board of Directors as our new Recording Secretary. Jeannie's background and eagerness to make a difference and assist her fellow JCAESP members will only enhance the vision your JCAESP/AFSCME Local 4011 Board of Directors possess.
We are also just as exciting to announce the appointment of our new Sick Bank Chairperson, Sonya Jones. Sonya is an ECE Instructional Assistant at Maryhurst and is excited about her new appointment. Sonya is pleased to work with our new Sick Bank Committee members, Ann Zakem and Seth Green. Ann is a Library Media Clerk at Newburg Middle School and Seth is a Nurse (LPN) at Young Elementary. Additional information will be sent out on August 31, 2017 concerning Sick Bank Registration in the month of September and the newly updated forms. Please remember, in keeping with KRS laws, JCPS Board Policies and JCAESP procedures you must be on a Jefferson County Board of Education approved Medical/FMLA leave before applying to the JCAESP Sick Bank for assistance.
In an attempt to keep consistency for our JCAESP/AFSCME Members we have scheduled all General Meetings/Workshops for the first Wednesday of each month. With the limited availability of the second floor meeting room at our Union office location, after school sports, church, and personal meetings it is very difficult to find a time that will serve all members. Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 6:00 pm. We will work diligently to keep all meetings at a one hour limit and agenda for the meeting will be sent out five days prior to the scheduled meeting.
I have attached an Official Copy of the 2017-2021 JCBE-JCAESP Agreement for you to use as we await the completion of the printing of our booklets. The booklets are being printed by our JCAESP/AFSCME members in JCPS Material and Productions Department. Once completed they will be sent via the district Inter-Department Mail (pony) to all location JCAESP/AFSCME members.
JCAESP/AFSCME Local 4011 will undergo an AFSCME International Audit at the request of your JCAESP/AFSCME Board of Directors. An audit team from Washington DC will be in Louisville during the month of September to audit all records, documents and financial records of Local 4011 over the past two years and beyond if needed. This is keeping with the recent election of new board members and ensuring transparency for our members. Once the audit has been completed we will call a meeting of all members to review and discuss the findings of this audit.
In closing, I wish you all the best as we gear up for week two and the Great Solar Eclipse of 2017. I am quite sure our many school based secretaries, bookkeepers and Purchasing department clerical staff will be ever so glad to see August 21, 2017 come and go! The emails to find solar eclipse glasses have been overwhelming and I'm only reading them. Always remembers, We are JCPS Classified, We are Professionals, We are College and Career Readied, We Make a Difference and We are United!
